A complete front brake kit which makes sense.

We set out to design a front brake kit which is as advantageous as possible for the dollar. Carefully walking the line of trade offs. This brake kit is based around TA2 racing components. For those unfamiliar with TA2- 525hp, 2800 lb, hoosier 3045 slicks, stock car chassis placing a heavy emphasis on affordability and extremely impressive lap times at all your favorite tracks. While the rotor is identical, the caliper is slightly smaller, less expensive, and has the proper piston area to satisfy the brake system which could not be had with the exact TA2 caliper. We are confident this combination will deliver the required performance with upfront and long term affordability and reliability.

Meet the caliper-

We chose the Wilwood Forged Superlite 6R Radial mount caliper for this kit. The caliper features a staggered piston arrangement for consistent and even displacement of pad force against the rotor face. Thermlock pistons reduce heat transfer to the caliper upwards of 25% compared to traditional pistons. At a mere 4.9 lbs, the caliper yields a very impressive stiffness to weight ratio. The calipers house the ever so popular 7420 pad with an impressive .8" thick compound for increased longevity. Internal cross tubes eliminate pesky external tubes for less potential failure points. Last but not least, like all wilwood products, replacements are abundant and can be had the same or next day all over the US.

Caliper bracket-

Our in-house designed radial mount caliper bracket is manufactured from 2024-t3 aluminum for superior strength under elevated temperatures. Countless FEA hours have molded the bracket to take supreme advantage of geometrical stiffness. At .54 lbs, the bracket will keep the caliper exactly where it needs to be and is guaranteed to never fail. The bracket will survive infinite loading cycles under 2 G of deceleration.

The shining rotor disk-

We elected to use the 12.2" diameter 1.25" width Lug Mount GT 48 Curved Vane Rotor found on TA2 race cars. This rotor uses Wilwoods patented lug drive design which boasts a full floating disk for smooth operation, less run out and thermal transfer. The beauty of lug drive technology is that the rotor is secured to the hat with a single snap ring. No more floating bolts to wear out the hats or to keep up with. No more safety wire for those of you that do it right. A disk swap can be completed in less than one minute compared to 30 minutes to properly replace and wire tie a bolted 2 piece rotor. The disk features Wilwoods top of the line spec-37 premium heavy wall casting for increased disk durability. We elected for the extra wide 1.25" rotor for increased displacement and cross flow area inside the rotor. The rotor is a directional curved vane for optimal air flow.

Finding compromise with rotors was tough and some of you reading this may think it is asinine to elect for a smaller diameter rotor compared to the Rx8s 12.7” sport rotor, but let's review some key points. Jumping up to a 13" or 14" disk is costly upfront and after years and years of service, the cost quickly increases. We elected for a different approach. TA2, along with other stock car classes and dirt track cars, use 15" wheels almost universally. Small wheels require smaller rotor diameter, but with such a massive influence these cars have, buying power and volume are king which drive down cost. For instance the 12.2" rotor we have elected for has a base purchase price of $240 direct from wilwood. The same 13" rotor is $520 and the 14" is $435. The weight of brake components is of utmost concern being unsprung mass. For instance the 12.2" lug drive rotors tip the scales at 12.6 lbs vs the 14" variation at 18.8 lbs. We have satisfied weight and cost variables while slightly reducing the thermal capacity compared to a larger 14" disk. The specialty material grade, massive thickness and curved vanes will drastically increase the thermal threshold of the system. Coupling this combination with proper ducting and thermal capacity will be of no concern even under the most demanding environments. Replacement floating lug drive rotors are always sold at cost- $205.00

The rotor hat-

Our in-house designed rotor hats are manufactured from 2024-t3 aluminum for superior strength under elevated temperatures. The hat allows for proper offset of the rotor and is a sealed design to take advantage of proper ducting from our soon to be released brake ducts.

Brake lines-

Featuring stainless steel front brake lines manufactured by Techna Fit. We have been using this particular brake line on 100's of race cars over the last decade with phenomenal success and reliability.

Weight comparison-

Total mass is 19.5 lbs per corner compared to OEM at 30 lbs while improving stiffness and thermal capacity of the caliper and greatly increasing the thermal capacity of the rotor.
