1990-2005 MX5 Rear Drop Spindles
Our Gen1 spindles started production 11 years ago and the Gen4 will be the final revision. With each generation I have pushed myself to further my engineering skills to produce a more efficient component. With the Gen4s, I will finally lay my creation to rest with contentment. The Gen4 has taken an additional 200+ hours of refinement in CAD and FEA to produce, what I would consider, the most efficient design of any rear spindle for a production vehicle on the market.
Construction and geometry-
Material- 6061-T6 aluminum
Coating- Premier electroless nickel plating
Mass- 3.35 lbs
Fatigue life- Will withstand infinite and simultaneous 3G bump, 2G lateral, 2G longitudinal forces. Essentially making this a lifelong structural component with the exception of potential crashes.
Stiffness-
28% increased stiffness @ hub flange under 2g lateral load (cornering) compared to OEM
8% increased stiffness @ hub flange under 2g longitudinal load (braking) compared to OEM
77% increased stiffness @ hub flange under 3g bump load (suspension compression) compared to OEM
1.5" drop/ geometry correction induced for happier roll center, instant centers and steering geometry
No built in camber.
When using prior ride height settings, expect the camber adjustment range to be 1-1.5 degrees less, given the suspension geometry correction.
Mating-
Accepts OEM size wheel bearing, hub of your choosing, and OEM upper bushing (or our spherical option).
OEM caliper ear positioning in relation to hub.
ABS-
Provisions are made to mate the OEM wheel speed sensors in the same orientation as OEM. If using a different ABS system,
you can make a bracket to house the new sensor using our built in pickup point.
Volvo tone rings (Dorman 917-553) press onto non-ABS Miata CV axles. These tone rings output the
same frequency as the front hub assemblies (48 teeth per revolution). Miata ABS CV axles have a larger
diameter flange that is not comparable to the size of the Volvo tone rings.

Mounting fasteners for fixturing the ABS sensors to the uprights
Options- Rear upper spherical assemblies w/ installation - $150.00
Please note- We do not have an option for wheel bearings. However, you are welcome to send us your preferred wheel bearings (any bearing meant for use with 1990-2005 miata) and we will press them into your spindles free of charge. We do not install hubs.
